Unilife VS Private Renting: key things you need to think about when choosing your student accommodation.
When it comes to deciding where to live as a student the options can seem confusing and endless. Most students are making the choice between private rented housing and private student accommodation such as Unilife. Here are some key things you need to think about…
As the age old saying goes, location, location, location! No one wants to get up and walk in the wind and rain for half an hour to get to their 9am lecture, however sometimes that’s the sacrifice you pay for living with your friends in a private rented flat or house. However, Unilife’s student accommodation is centrally located within close walking distance to the university buildings and social events within the city- meaning a lot of money saved from not having to get taxi’s home.
Unilife offers all inclusive rent, this includes all gas, electricity, water and even your internet and TV licence for the year. Whilst when in a private rented house these bills will need to be organised by yourself and flatmates, this can make your finances and budgeting much more difficult and even cause tension between friends. By going into private student accommodation it takes the stress of organising bills off you so you can sit back and relax!
Private rented houses can vary hugely from one to the next and it can be hard to determine the quality of the house from a simple viewing. You are also unaware of how helpful or involved your new landlord may be with the upkeep of your house, meaning you may have a lot of problems to deal with yourself. However, renting with Unilife takes that worry away as the buildings are modern with high quality rooms and you have the assurance of getting any problems you may encounter resolved quickly.
Both options involve moving and a lot of the time moving from home, this can be daunting and sometimes frightening but at the same time you gain a lot of new found independence from it. This is a fantastic experience but nevertheless, your safety and security comes first. By being in Unilife accommodation you have the safety of being in a building with CCTV security and being surrounded by other students, as well as not having to worry if you do somehow lock yourself out in the middle of the day (we have all done it) as Unilife uses electronic door systems with key fobs which means not having to wait hours in the cold for your flatmates to return home to let you in.
