Getting back into the uni life

Welcome back! We hope you all had a fantastic time off and have enjoyed the festive celebrations. We’ve all over indulged and getting back into the university routine can be a bit of a struggle. It takes a fair amount of motivation to leave behind the chocolates and Christmas films and venture out into the cold weather to trudge to lectures, although thanks to the great locations of our buildings that isn’t too far! But by following these simple tips hopefully you’ll be able to smooth the transition and get back into the uni life.

Stay up to date

Start by checking your emails and timetables and ensure you’re back up to speed with university going-ons. Your timetable may have changed over the break, so avoid any missed lectures or the embarrassing moment when you turn up to an empty classroom, and check for any variations from the previous term. Also be sure to go over those emails you’ve been ignoring for the last few weeks as well! It’s crucial to stay up to date with events, feedback and deadlines. You might miss something important.

See your uni friends

After the joys of the Christmas break you might be missing your family and friends from back home. If this is the case then it is important to remind yourself about what is so good about university life; go and spend some time with your uni friends. This is made even easier thanks to our common rooms in Southampton, and coming soon a brand new social hub in our Portsmouth Middle Street building. This hub will be open to all Portsmouth Unilife students and is therefore guaranteed to provide a fantastic base for social activity.

Start eating normal food again

We’ve all enjoyed large amounts of food (and drink) over the last few weeks and are now feeling the effects of it… So put all those student cookbooks you got for Christmas to use, avoid the takeaways for the next few weeks, and cook for yourselves! All our studios house modern facilities, including a self-contained kitchen, meaning you’ll be able to rustle up some healthy meals in no time. Getting you back on track. Plus if you’re looking for an additional boost we also have on-site gym facilities, helping you stick to that New Year’s resolution.

Look out for all the events coming up

A new term means plenty of new events coming up. Keep your eyes open for refreshers fayres, nights out, new opportunities and numerous other activities designed to help you make the most out of your second term. It is never too late to start something new and signing up to the unknown could provide a fun new hobby or an excellent addition to your CV!

Go to lectures.

As tempting as it may be to avoid the downpour outside and give your Monday morning 9am lecture a miss. Try to force yourself to be proactive and attend those lectures. It is very easy to fall behind and although those summer exams may still seem a fair distance away, they’ll be upon you before you know it!
